Prefix code is a two-letter code used to identify an airline. This code is regulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is used in airline transactions, such as airline ticket booking, check-in, etc.
In Vietnam, operating airlines all have their own prefix codes. Below is a list of some prefix codes of airlines operating in Vietnam:
| Ordinal number | Airlines | Code | AWB Prefix | |
| 1 | Vietnam Airlines | VN | 738 | SCSC, TCS |
| 2 | Vietjet Air | VJ | 978 | SCSC, TCS |
| 3 | Bamboo Airways | QH | 979 | SCSC, TCS |
| 4 | Pacific Airlines | VJ | 977 | SCSC, TCS |
| 5 | Cambodia Angkor Air | ANK | 976 | SCSC, TCS |
| 6 | AirAsia | AK | 975 | SCSC, TCS |

The order of priority of these prefix codes is specified as follows:
Domain name: This is the highest priority. For example, VN is the prefix code of Vietnam Airlines because its domain name is vietnamairlines.com.vn.
Company name: If the company domain name is not available, the company name will be used. For example, VJ is the prefix code of Vietjet Air because the airline’s name is Vietjet Air.
VN: If both the domain name and the company name are not available, VN, which stands for Vietnam, will be used.
International: If all of the above priorities are not met, the company’s international prefix code will be used. For example: RG is the prefix code of Cambodia Angkor Air, short for Royal Government.
For example:
Vietnam Airlines’ domain name is vietnamairlines.com.vn, so its prefix code is VN.
Vietjet Air airline’s domain name is vietjetair.com, so its prefix code is VJ.
Bamboo Airways airline’s domain name is bambooairways.com, so its prefix code is QH.
Hopefully this article has provided you with the necessary information about prefix codes of airlines operating in Vietnam.
