In November 2014, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company announced the foundation of Vietjet Air Cargo Company to better exploit the air freight business in Vietnam and worldwide.
The market for Vietjet air cargo
According to Mr. Do Xuan Quang, General Director of Vietjet Air Cargo, Vietnam’s aviation cargo exploitation industry has a lot of potentials. Because domestic airlines do not have a fleet specialized in moving commodities, Vietnam is currently a promising market for foreign airlines to exploit.
The aviation sector in Vietnam exploits around 630 thousand tons of freight per year (2013). This is a small amount in comparison to demand because the commodities imported by plane into Vietnam are large: electronics, fashion, fresh seafood, and so on.
Previously, Vietjet Air Cargo was the primary operator of cargo handling on Vietjet Air’s domestic route network. Vietjet Air Cargo had previously constructed a cargo aircraft fleet and supplied freight charter services for domestic and international markets.
