Bilateral merchandise trade Relations between Vietnam – France has seen a positive development. Total value of trade exchange between the two countries in goods in 2015 rose more than 2 times compared to 2010. Free Trade Agreement Vietnam – EU (EVFTA) signed on May 12/2015, has a chance large enterprises of the two countries to expand cooperation and create momentum for relations strategic partner Vietnam – France becoming deeper.
Our statistics show that in the period since 2010 – 2012, bilateral trade turnover between the two countries continued to rise (2.06 billion US dollars respectively, 2.86 billion and 3.75 billion) thanks to strong growth in both exports and imports afternoon. The average growth rate of exports of goods to France Vietnam throughout this period was 39% and for imported goods originating from France in Vietnam is 22.8%.

Entering the 2014-2015 period, the total value of trade between the two countries began to rise again in both exports and imports but export growth rate of imports higher.
For years, the value of merchandise exports from Vietnam to France is always greater than the value of imports of goods originating from this market; therefore, trade balance surplus is always in a state leaning toward Vietnam. Notably, the trade surplus continued to increase from 2010 to 2015. Data are as in Figure 1
The statistics in Table 1 show that France’s current position tobe supply market to Vietnam is No. 3 in Europe and No. 18 in the total number of foreign markets to export goods into Vietnam. Besides, the French export market is also the 5th largest cargo of Vietnam enterprises in the markets of Europe and 13th in total merchandise export market of Vietnam.
The latest Preliminary statistics show that, by the end of the month 7/2016, total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam – France reached 2.23 billion dollars, down 4.4% compared to same period of 2015. In particular, the total value of goods imported from France Vietnam is 613 million, down 16.6% and exports to this market of 1.62 billion, a slight increase of 1.2% compared 7 May / 2015.
