Aircraft manufacturer – 5 main companies in the industry

While the aviation industry as a whole is a highly competitive business, there is little competition among aircraft suppliers. In this article, we will take a look at 6 of the most notable aircraft manufacturers in the world.

Boeing

Boeing is the largest commercial airplane manufacturer, with headquarters in Chicago. It produced 806 commercial aircraft and 96 military aircraft in 2018.

Boeing Commercial Aircraft manufactures the company’s commercial aircraft, which include jetliners and business jets. The division headquarters are located in Renton, Washington. It is worth noticing that this aircraft manufacturer ’s commercial airliners, from 707 to 787, follow the 7X7 naming tradition.

Queens of the Skies – Boeing 747

Boeing is best known for its 747, 737, and Dreamliner models, which are among the most popular aircraft models in the world. Unluckily, due to two catastrophic incidents in 2017, all 737 models were grounded. They have subsequently resolved the difficulties with this model and are back in the air.
Boeing and Airbus have a monopoly on the global supply of big commercial airplanes. Boeing produces narrow-body, wide-body, and jumbo planes.

Airbus

Along with Boeing, Airbus is the other main maker of big commercial aircraft. Notably, its headquarters are in the Dutch city of Leiden. This aircraft manufacturer has 11 commercial aircraft using the A2XX or A3XX naming pattern.

Its A320 is now the best-selling aircraft family of all time, and in 2019 Airbus booked significantly more orders than Boeing (1,131 compared to 246).

Airbus’s commercial aircraft segment accounts for around 74% of company revenues. Indeed, many predict that Airbus will overtake Boeing as the leading commercial aircraft maker. Airbus employed about 133,000 people as of 2018. To be sure, Airbus, created in 1970, is a collaboration with France, Germany, and Spain each owning 36%.

Embraer

Embraer is a Brazilian commercial aircraft manufacturer located in Sao Paulo. It also makes military, agricultural, and executive planes. Since 1996, Embraer has manufactured and delivered more than 1,000 aircraft to more than 37 airlines in 24 countries.

The ERJ, E-Jet, and E-Jet E2 series of narrow-body planes are Embraer’s main products. In terms of passenger capacity, these jets seat:
ERJ: 37 to 50 passengers
E-Jet: 66 to124 passengers
E-Jet E2: 80 to 146 passengers

Embraer’s Phenom 300 has been voted the world’s best-selling light jet by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Embraer delivered 59 Phenom 300 series light jets in 2022 to reach this milestone, and the series has had over 700 deliveries to date.

Bombardier

Bombardier is a Canadian aircraft manufacturer that was established in 1942.

Having faced fierce competition from Boeing and Airbus for a long time, Bombardier launched Cseries – the affordable commercial aircraft product line offered to newly opened or low-cost airlines. This is the first time Bombardier has turned to large commercial aircraft production compared to traditional products of small aircraft.

The Bombardier CRJ, CRJ900 and CRJ1000 are regional commercial aircraft based on the successful Bombardier CRJ200. This aircraft performed in Hanoi on September 10, 2007 and in Ho Chi Minh City on September 11, 2007.

The successful Bombardier CRJ200

Air Mekong also uses Bombardier CRJ 900 as the main aircraft for the airline’s domestic flights. Following the success of the CRJ-100/-200 series, Bombardier decided to proceed with the production of two larger variants to compete with small commercial aircraft such as Boeing 717, Boeing 737-600, Embraer E-Jets and the like.

Comac

Comac, which stands for Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, began operations in 2008 in Shanghai, China. Comac, in particular, designs and manufactures large airliners that seat more than 150 people. Logically, China developed Comac to lessen its reliance on Airbus and Boeing.

The C919 is rival to the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.

Comac’ s first two aircraft are the ARJ21 and the C919, both of which seat up to 168 people. In reality, the C919 competes with the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.
Nonetheless, plans for the future include two wide-body, twin-engine, twin-aisle long-range planes. The first is the C929, which has a passenger capacity of 250 to 290. The second aircraft is the C939, which can accommodate 390 to 400 passengers.

Aircraft manufacturers tend to remain unknown to the general public since they are usually unrelated to our daily lives. But with the above list of 5 of many aircraft manufacturing companies, Best Cargo hopes to offer a general understanding to you.
