Vietnam Airlines launches two new routes to Europe.
Vietnam Airlines will launch two new routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Germany’s Munich starting October 2024.
The state-owned carrier said Tuesday that it will use the wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft for the routes.
There will be two flights per week on the Hanoi-Munich route, departing on Friday and Sunday and returning on Monday and Saturday.
There will be one flight per week on the HCMC-Munich route, leaving on Monday and returning on Tuesday. Another flight will be added every Wednesday starting in December.
Vietnam Airlines is the only Vietnamese airline to have direct routes to Europe.
Private carrier Bamboo Airways used to operate flights to Germany and the U.K. but had shut them down since the end of last year as part of its business strategy change.
Munich is the third largest city in Germany and an economic, cultural, and transport hub. The city is also famous for its mix of ancient and modern architectural structures and for the Oktoberfest beer festival held every October.
With the new routes, Vietnam Airlines will have four routes from Vietnam to Germany, including the Hanoi and HCMC routes to Frankfurt. It also has flights from Vietnam’s two biggest cities to Paris and London.
The carrier’s chairman, Dang Ngoc Hoa, said in January that it would open more international routes this year, with possible destinations being Milan, Copenhagen, Seattle, and Vancouver.
Vietnam Airlines to launch a direct air route from Hanoi to Milan
The Hanoi-Milan route will make use of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and will have three flights per week running on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
To mark this special occasion, Vietnam Airlines is offering various promotions, such as round-trip tickets priced at VND14.8 million, including taxes and fees. This promotion will be applied to customers who purchase tickets between September 17 and November 12 for flights departing from July 1 to July 31 in 2025.
Tickets for the routes are now available on Vietnam Airlines’ website, mobile app, and official ticket offices and agents nationwide.
Furthermore, the national flag carrier is also poised to launch direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Milan beginning in 2026.
With the addition of this new European destination, Vietnam Airlines will operate a total of nine international routes linking the nation to Europe.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines is the only Vietnamese carrier to operate direct flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Paris of France, Frankfurt of Germany, and London of the UK.
Moreover, the national flag carrier also has plans to begin its direct services from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Munich, one of the largest cities in Germany, in October this year.
